Rifle/Muzzleloader Hunts
General Info
We run one public rifle hunt in unit 12. This tag can only be obtained through the draw process. This is our first choice with gun hunters when applying them for the draw. The hunt is in early October and falls during the middle of the rut. Typically the bulls are still rutting good during this time frame and the chances of killing a trophy class bull are higher than anywhere else in the Southwest.
We run two muzzleloader hunts in unit 13. These are generally our second and third choices in the draw for our gun hunters. These hunts fall in early to mid October during the last half of the rut cycle. The second cycle of the rut typically occurs around the dates of the later muzzleloader hunt. These hunts offer good draw odds and great kill success. We do offer landowner tags in unit 13 for hunters who are unsuccessful in the draw. There are no restrictions on muzzleloaders on these hunts. In-line muzzleloaders, scopes, and sabots are legal.
