Elk Archery Hunting
View all New Mexico photos
Our New Mexico archery elk hunting takes place in September during the pre-rut through the middle stages of the rut. We consider this the best opportunity to kill the biggest bulls in our areas. The bulls are typically very vocal during this period, and the activity level makes for some of the greatest experiences that archery hunting has to offer.
In 2004, our archery hunter killed a bull that scored 427 P&Y and is currently ranked as one of the top ten elk ever killed with a bow in the world. Every year our archery hunters have encounters with bulls of that same caliber.
In Unit 12 we offer both public and private land archery elk hunts. The public land hunt may only be obtained through the draw process, and the private land hunt is secured with a guaranteed landowner permit. We also offer public land archery hunts in Unit 13. These may be obtained through the draw process, or by purchasing a unit wide landowner permit. New Mexico Archery Elk Hunting may be booked for 6 to 10 days depending on the Unit. Hunters with disabilities should contact the New Mexico Game and Fish Department regarding obtaining a Mobility Impaired Certification Application to use a crossbow during archery season.
